Acupuncture Treatment for Colds & Flu
We are all too familiar with the symptoms of cold and flu. We've all suffered through the discomfort and forfeited time from work or school. Today, we receive mixed signals as to how to treat common colds and flu. The fear of widespread infection and antibiotic resistance has many people wondering what they should do.

IAcupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be used as a preventative approach to reduce the incidence of cold and flu, as well as to shorten the length of illness and reduce the seriousness of symptoms. By rebalancing the body's systems, regulating the body's healing energies, and enhancing the immune system, it is possible to escape the flu season altogether!
How Does Does Acupuncture Work?
The Western concept of the immune system is understood as the Wei Qi in TCM. The Wei Qi functions as a barrier protecting and defending the body against foreign substances (germs, viruses, cold and damp weather) which can cause illness and disease. When the Wei Qi is strong and abundant, we stay healthy. When its supply is inadequate, our health is compromised and we become vulnerable to illness.
By the time the symptoms occur, our bodies are already compromised. Acupuncture can keep the symptoms on the surface and prevent them from penetrating further, as well as help invigorate the Wei Qi to enhance our ability to fight the symptoms. By actively engaging our healing energies, our time affected by these symptoms is shortened, their seriousness is lessened, and we return to good health faster.
Acupuncture strengthens the systems of the body that are involved in the production of Wei Qi as well as helps rebalance and support the immune system and stimulate Wei Qi energy. This facilitates the smooth and free flow of Wei Qi throughout the body. The body's organs and meridian systems become strong, enhancing their ability to effectively fight off illness.
Acupuncture is a drug-free, safe, and natural way to support the body's
self-regulating, self-balancing healing systems. If illness does occur,
acupuncture can help you get back on your feet again, helping to stave
off prolonged illness without the use of medication.

What is the procedure?
Your Acupuncturist, Wendy Lind will develop a treatment plan, taking
your health history into account. She will select and identify specific
acupoints for your specific needs. Hair thin needles are inserted and
will be left in place for 5 to 40 minutes. The needles may be tapped
on, or rotated.
The insertion of the needles does not hurt. At most you may feel a brief
sensation similar to a mosquito bite. Needles will be inserted along
various energy meridians in your body. They help stimulate various healing
resources naturally available in your body. The treatment will reduce
energy blockages and will release endorphins that will help alleviate
pain.
