What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

I’ve been getting a lot of calls about Cosmetic Acupuncture because of my Global TV News interview.  Many people were surprised to find out that acupuncture could be used as a safe alternative to a “facelift.”

Facial Rejuvenation AcupunctureAcupuncture is not just for the treatment of pain or disease. In fact, cosmetic acupuncture is a safe alternative to plastic surgery and other surgical procedures on your face! Acupuncture is virtually painless and offers a natural, safe and effective method for smoothing out lines, evening out skin tone, enhancing muscle tone and improving your overall appearance.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine dating back over 6000 years, and focuses on the well-being of the total body.  Acupuncture zeroes in on blocked flow of vital energy, called Qi (pronounced chee), and blood in the body. By unblocking this vital energy, acupuncture can aid in minimizing frown lines, crow’s feet and smile lines, reducing a double chin, firming the jaw line and reducing jowls, lifting drooping eyelids, evening out skin tone and enhancing facial tone as well as other conditions.

Used as a cosmetic therapy, acupuncture can enhance and revitalize the beauty of your face and also help rejuvenate your entire body. The vital energy and blood flows within your body along meridians, each of which is associated with a specific organ in the body. Acupuncture therapy strives to unblock Qi by inserting hair-thin needles into specific points in the body, called acupoints, for a duration of several minutes during each treatment. When your meridians are cleared, elastin and collagen production are increased, helping to reduce wrinkles and fine lines and rejuvenate dull facial skin tone.

In addition to increasing the production of collagen, an essential protein, acupuncture helps restore hormonal balance in the body. Hormonal imbalances are partially responsible for blemishes, acne and poor skin tone. Acupuncture also helps enhance the flow of vital energy, blood and lymph which work to relax and rejuvenate the skin.

Your acupuncture therapy program will be personalized for your situation and your desired results. The therapy will include treatments several times a week initially, and will run for several weeks. Your Acupuncturist will talk to you about your lifestyle, including your skin care regimen to determine the contributing factors of aging. Good nutrition and regular exercise including facial exercises and massage will prolong the positive benefits achieved through acupuncture.

Cosmetic acupuncture also improves circulation and carries nutrients to muscles and nerves throughout your body. The result is not only a younger looking appearance, but also enhanced skin tone and vitality of all muscles and skin, yielding increased energy and an improved feeling of well-being.

An improved sense of well-being and increased energy will aid in enhancing your outlook, help you keep a positive attitude and reduce the stress and other influences that negatively impact the flow of vital energy in your body. Your self-esteem will be improved, and you will be more enthusiastic about your on-going care for your face and your entire body.

When you feel good, you look good! Acupuncture is an ideal, non-invasive, drug-free therapy for helping you do both.

Year of the Golden Rabbit 2011

Friday, February 4th, 2011

The Chinese New Year began on February 3rd when one could hear the banging of pots and pans and the loud racket created by firecrackers.  These loud noises are meant to scare away bad luck spirits.  Hope it worked! LOL

This is the Year of the Golden Rabbit.  It started on Feb 3,  2011 and will end on January 22nd 2012.

Chinese New Year dates are determined by the Lunar Calendar.

Many people welcome the year of the rabbit as it is said to stand for humanitarianism, diplomacy and negotiation. This are all welcome traits for a world in which there is so much need.

The actual beginnings of the Chinese New Year goes back many centuries. The day is celebrated and recognized throughout the world. It is a national holiday in China. In China as well as locations across the world the day is spent celebrating with traditional food, and drink. There are often parties and parades with cultural costumes, parade floats, fireworks and spectacular shows. The highlight of the New Year’s Parades are the giant Dragon Puppets. Unlike the Western celebration of New Years which typically is one day, the Chinese celebrate for two weeks ending on the 15th day with the Lantern Festival.
The Chinese Astrological Calendar is broken into five elements – metal, water, wood, fire and earth.  According to the Zodiac Calendar,  this year it is a  GOLDEN Rabbit.

The characteristics of metal are endurance, strength and signed by the color white (golden).  Many astrologers believe that adding the characteristics of metal to the characteristics of the rabbit — luck, prosperity, and gentleness, will bring a great change to the world.  Astrologers  are happy to see the passing of the year of the Tiger because the Tiger traits  were wicked, and fierce.

Experts agree the calm gracious good mannered rabbit will bring change to many conflicts throughout the world.
The following dates in history were also years of the rabbit;  it is interesting to look back in time to review what happened during those years. Maybe you were born in the year of the rabbit; many say that this has an effect on your personality and the path of your life.

Year of the Rabbit 2011
The last year that we were under the influence of the Rabbit was February 16th, 1999  to  February 4th, 2000.

Celebrity rabbits include: Kate Winslet, Tina Turner, Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore, David Beckham and Johnny Depp.

These are MY favorite Golden Rabbits!

Happy New Year

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Happy New Year to all my Chinese friends and anyone else celebrating the Lunar New Year. This is the most important traditional holiday in China and is a fabulous excuse for a celebration lasting 15 days.

Chinese New YearOver the next 15 days there are loads of events and  exciting things happening during the celebration.

Tonight … is New Years Eve.  Many people will celebrate with a Chinese feast or home cooked meal.  At midnight open your windows … you may hear the banging of pots and pans and some very loud fire crackers.

The intent of the pot banging and firecrackers is to create loud noises which scare the bad spirits away — to preventing them from bringing bad luck.

You can spend this entire weekend taking in all the events and shows … starting with the Chinese New Year’s Parade  on February 6 from  12PM  to 2PM. – 2pm.

See Parade Route HERE

The Chinatown Spring Festival kicks off at the  Chinese Cultural Centre Courtyard starting at 2PM . This free event includes  performances, martial arts demonstrations, and loads of activities for the kids.
