Frequently Asked Questions
Does Acupuncture hurt?
There are over 300 acupoint sites on the body. Many acupoint sites are located in areas where there is little or no sensation when the acupuncture needle is inserted. There are a few sites where the sensation is equivalent to the prick of a mosquito bite. The needles are very thin, and are designed to be easily inserted and create minimal bleeding.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is safe. It is non-invasive and has no side-effects. The hair thin needles we use are made of stainless steel and are “one use only” needles. This is a regulation set down, by our governing body the CTCMA of BC, throughout the province of B.C.
How long did you go to school to become an acupuncturist?
To become and acupuncturist takes a minimum of 3 years in a Traditional Chinese Medicine School. I took additional training in Cosmetic Acupuncture as well as for infertility, weight loss and the immune system. Acupuncturists in BC are required to write a Licensing Exam and a Practical Exam set by our governing board, the CTCMA. (http://www.ctcma.bc.ca/index.asp)
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works with a system of meridians throughout the body which carry the “Qi”, which is our vital energy. These meridians act as conduits. The acupuncture points are seen as points where the Qi rises to the surface and is accessible. When the flow of Qi is obstructed, disease, ill-health and pain develop. More information on How Acupuncture Works.
What can Acupuncture be used for?
Acupuncture is very effective in treating many chronic conditions such as pain, migraines, arthritis, IBS, etc. It is also effective in treating weight loss, stress, colds and coughs, depression, anxiety, sports injury, and symptoms of menopause. It is an excellent alternative for treating infertility and can help you quite smoking. More information on the Conditions Acupuncture Can Treat.

Can acupuncture prevent disease?
Traditional Chinese Medicine is known as a medicine which first prevents, and then treats. Acupuncture can boost the immune system to avoid colds and flu, help with the regulation of menstrual cycles and PMS, and much more. In Acupuncture we treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.
What Should I Wear?
